Ian Fleming was an English author, journalist and naval intelligence officer best known today for his series of spy novels featuring the British secret agent 007, James Bond. Fleming was educated at the prestigious private school Eton and the military academy Sandhurst before attending a private school in Kitzbühel, Austria, where he was encouraged to develop his talent for writing. Beginning with Casino Royale in 1953 Fleming wrote 12 novels and two collections of short stories featuring Bond. The books, with their emphasis on glamour, excitement and danger, became a publishing phenomenon and sparked a lucrative film franchise. Today, James Bond is a global phenomenon, a character known all over the world as the epitome of action and adventure.
